too bad sanjaya fell out of the helicopter and not penny
that is the WORST photoshop job EVER....my profile picture on MySpace is better! And it SUCKS!
I guess we were only supposed to see it for a few seconds, just long enough to notice the face. I bet it is his sister, they look like they are close in age, she may be a bit older.
I actually noticed this, i was so happy.
Wow, this photo kind of creeps me out. It's like he had a crush on her and cut their pictures out and glued them together.. <3
Ok guys.. we have to make a collective effort to call the new chick Sanjaya.
It's weird that he isn't smiling, and he is wearing a regular shirt, plus his hair looks the same, so it was either on his day off(lol), or he has not been a monk too long. I am sure I am analyzing this picture too much though. She almost looks like she is wearing the same shirt as in Desmond's flashback, but her hair is different.
Just one more thought, the head monk, fired him the night before, and told him that this was not what he was meant to do. Maybe he gets the flashes too, and that was why he is linked to this lady? Maybe he was making things happen just like Desmond makes things happen that he sees in his flashes...

Maybe, but I am fine with the straightforward reason he got fired, which is that he was a pretty crappy monk.
That picture does throw a monkey wrench into the equation, though.

I think it just shows that she has been playing a role in Desmond's destiny for far longer than we previously knew.
To reach the island he had to get steamed at Widmore and try to win his race. To ever meet Charles he had to meet Penny. Seems she had a hand in making sure the things happened.

i was glad that i caught this when on first viewing. granted it was pretty obvious, but i usually dont catch eggs on the first view.

I had a theory about this, which relates to remote viewing.
Perhaps the reason it looks like she's not supposed to be in the picture, is because she isn't. What if that's just a byproduct of remote viewing, like the wispers.

What if the girl on the poster is part of the third group of others along with the lady from Desmonds flashback? What if each of the losties has one of these people "observing" the flashbacks?

No. Des and Penny were both in that one. This one looks like they were both super-imposed over the backdrop separately.

That's what i'm thinking king bob. In video games they use a lot of items over and over in different levels(trash cans, background items etc..) What if the flashes people see aren't real(or being recreated) and the reason we keep seeing mccullen whiskey, the cat, things like that, is because it's in the islands memory.
The church yard behind them is the same one that Charlie and Liam walked across after Charlie's confession to the priest in "The Moth" and since TPTB were using the same church to film both locations, it can be assumed that this is supposed to be outside the monastery.
The real question is . . . why did the helicopter crash? - and where are they that they can be reached by helicopter (which wouldn't have the range to reach an isolated Pacific Island)?
helicopter could have been launched from a yacht offshore - there are yachts that have helipads on them.
It's the top monk who's Photoshopped into that pic, or both of them. The lighting looks more corret for her than him. His image is like a mugshot.
The reason the picture looks bad:
It would have been a huge imposition and expense to get that actress out to Hawaii for a picture that would be seen for 1/2 a second.
I think her image might even be from Flashes Before Your Eyes.
Its photoshoppedness has no plot significance.

Yes, the actress is in RI filming Brotherhood. RIGHT. NOW. What bothers me is the photo looks too fake to be shrugged off as a production goof. Was it meant to look that way? The monk's pic looks like a license or a mugshot. Her's, I'm not sure. The background looks fake, too. With all the money and time and how anally things are done on this show, shouldn't they have done a better photo than that???
Why is it so hard to believe that the producers made a last minute decision to put the photo easter egg in, and couldn't spend too much time on it because of time constraints? Let's hope they address this on the next podcast.
Also, can we please never talk about Sanjaya again?
I'm new to this site, but I was noticing that the two images in the photo are taken in different lighting. The shadows on the woman's face do not match the way the light falls on the man's face. His face is fully lit, her's is lit from the side leaving shading on her cheek and neck.
jeff, I could do a better Photoshop job in twenty minutes than that. I think the badness of it is intentional.
I think that the picture is too obviously bad to not be an egg or clue. anyone could photoshop better than that.

Desmond=Jesus figure
Jesus birth was legendary, but then it was like people forgot and he then went on to live normal life, carpenter, a little weird, always running away to do weird things like talk to priests in the temple (couldn't that seem like running away from things like 1st wife accuses desmond). Then he slowly comes to realize he is special, has powers no one else has, can do miracles and save people from death...sounding familiar?
Desmond told fiance he ran from that "he felt a calling". Saints often screw up and were often kicked to the curb by the church like Desmond was by the head monk or "redirected" the church does that often with its underlings.
I think Desmond is Jesus, a saint of some kind (martyr? if he starts wearing red alot watch out), disciple or angel. Remember the writers of the bible had visions and maybe since it was written so far after the actual events they needed some kind of time travel to travel back to the time of jesus and relook at events to write about them, OR maybe even change them a little until they had a perfect messiah?
Ok, now I am geting too deep..
