There was a tight shot of the side of Carl's head either right before or right after he was shot, and I believe he had something in his ear as well. I'd formally request a screenshot, but clicking the Request button above doesn't do anything in my browser.
yeah i'm really curious as to what is in alex's ear???
I think they just forget it there. Did we see it before this shot?
It looked like something braided or attached to her hair. Almost like a roaoh clip that its feathers have fallen out. I think in a prior episode she's had this thing in her hair.
When you click on the picture to enlarge the last one- of Alex, it looks like a microphone. Either it's Tanya's microphone that was under her hair and fell out, or someone was speaking to Alex and telling her what was going on. *I* tend to think it was the former.
And there is the guy in the bushes! In the screen caps after Danielle is shot and before Alex stands up! On the left side by the tree - you can see his dark hair and shoulder. Production error or, maybe Miles? When you see the epi in slow motion the camera kinda follows the guy, so i am guessing the person was there on purpose.
And yeah, I think that is her mic.

Can anyone place when in Season 3 Tom visited Michael? It seems as if Ben is still in his Wheelchair while on the radio.
So, if Rousseau is actually dead (which I doubt), does that mean we'll never see any flashbacks about her??
They can't kill of Danielle!! if they do, it will be a big mistake. Her backstory hasn't even started. She is one of the most intriquing characters on the show.
Not only have we not seen a Danielle flashback, but she is one of my favourite characters. I'm still dying to see what she has been up to since she crashed on the island 16 years ago.
I think Smokey should get revenge on Danielle's attacker!! After all Smokey is the island's security system!!
looks like an ear-ring to me, and the closeup makes it look old - very old.
I didn't see anyone in the woods. I saw lots of grass moving and at first I thought, 'here comes smokey' but there was no voices. I have NO THEORY on the bushes moving unless a boar shot them (or the shooter is invisible).
And looks like The Temple is just the name of another Dharma station, and not actually a real temple of some kind.
So much was made in this issue about 'what wouldn't a man do for his son' and I suspect now that we're about to find out what a man would be willing to do for his daughter. Ben's about to get angry.
I think it's a metal something tied to Alex's hair (kinda like Brandon Lee having a bullet tied to his hair in "The Crow"). But I definitely saw something in Carl's ear when he feel over.

I think this is a complete Ben set-up. He's been itching to get rid of Karl forever, and Danielle wasn't really on his list of favorites either. Feels like an ambush to me. Also, I'm not really buying all this about Widmore and the boat. It all seems a little too easily wrapped up for me.

i thought the creators said we would get a danielle flashback and more of the karl/alex story. im really bummed about this.
Looks like a mic behind her ear to me and i seriously doubt that ABC uses old busted mics like that on a show they obv. spend a lot of money on ha ha I think it means something .... doesn't everything on this show?
That isn't a microphone. It's simply beads in her hair. I don't see how anyone could think otherwise??
There is no way it is a microphone tied in with production of the show, a mic that small would be a lavalier mic, which are used for interviews ect, and it would be placed on her shirt, not her ear. A television production would be using a boom, which is commonly seen dipping into shots in bloopers, large long mic on a stick so to speak.
Alex is Ben's biological daughter. I agree that there is a back story to Ben and Danielle. Ben refers to Alex as "my daugther," when he urges her to flee to The Temple. Danielle, who is always vocal, does not correct him. The camera even pauses on her face for a moment and she says nothing. I do not believe Danielle is dead either.
Did anyone else notice that the shooter hiding in the bushes seems to be wearing a dharma t-shirt.

What was Rousseau reason again for being on the island again. I think somehow she lied about that and maybe she was on the island orginally. How did she manage to survive this long without prior knowledge of the island. There's way more to her story than just crashing on the island. Hope to see her flashbacks soon.
Danielle's story was that she was there as part of a "team of scientists", and the rest of her crew "became sick / went crazy" and died. Then the "others" stole her baby (Alex). At least I am pretty sure that was the jist of her story.
Where are you guys seeing "someone hiding in the bushes" or "hiding behind a tree" I just don't see it in any of the screencaps. Maybe I am just blind.
i have looked at all the caps of the trees and I just don't see it. can someone point it out a little better for me???
I also see nobody in the bushes and no micrphones in ears. I see an ear ring tho.
Maybe a fight broke out and someone attacked her ear with an ear ring and left it hanging out of her ear.
in the screencap below the one of Danielle getting shot, make it big, then look just to the right of the big tree on the left of the shot, you can see the sun shining off the guys hair (the back of his head) and you can see his blue shirt. he's haunched over running away.

sarah I see it in both pics. The person looks like they are crawling. The person's hair can be seen to the right of the closest tree...then their back follows. It is a little more clear in the photo to the right of Danielle. COOL!!!

the temple seems to be kinda lkke norad. it would protect from poisiness gasses if burreid in a mountain or deep underground. also i called it a station long ago!!! (glee), also the location suggest to me its the crossed out station. i have no doubt that ben is alex bio father and the sickness is the time traveling thing.
my problem with Ben being the bio father is that that would mean Ben and Danielle knew each other pretty well. If that was the case, when Ben was caught in her trap and the LOSTies were debating as to whether or not he was an "other", or if he really was "Henry Gale".....
why wouldn't she put that debate to bed by confirming it with whatever info she had on BEN???
and why wouldn't she just ask for her daughter right then and there, if she knew BEN was the father?????
And if BEN is the father, she would definitely know it....unless of course Danielle "gets around" the island more than we thought! :-)
Yeah, i really just think Danielle knows he raised Alex, and she knew Ben loved Alex, and thats why she's ok with him calling her "his daughter".
but i DO agree with "the sickness" being the mind time travel.

What if Danielle and Ben cooked up the whole "caught in a net" thing together? It was a way for Ben to infiltrate the Losties. Danielle might be an original hostile. It seemed fishy to me that Danielle disappeared when Locke, Sayid and Kate were going up to The Flame. I remember thinking, "Uh-oh, she's one of them!" when that happened.
It wouldn't surprise me to find out that perhaps Rousseau was one of the Hostiles and then there was some sort of falling out over Alex, much the same way Juliette was branded for killing ... what's his name.
If such is the case she was probably given an alibi as Mikhail was (remember, he was the "last surviving member of the Dharma initiative"). Perhaps Ben and Danielle were even an item and then separated and Rousseau couldn't stand to be with the Others anymore. If such is the case she could've captured Ben and then turn her over to the Losties as some sort of revenge. Just conjecture here.
I'm also reminded of Watchmen, another influence on the show, where one of the characters has a child with the man who tried to rape her. They always kept the identity of the father a secret and never spoke, as it was this sort of backwards and screwed up romance. Could be a similar sort of thing between Danielle and Ben where perhaps they once cared for each other but circumstance and their own psychoses drove them apart. Who knows.
I've got it. The guy hiding in the grass is Richard. (He just signed on for another appearance, I believe.)
Ben and Rousseau could have met on one of Ben's excursions to the outside world where she got pregnant. She then seached him out and as a result became "Lost" on the Island. Alex was conceived off the Island - that's how they survived child birth.
Ben would have known that the only way he could have a child would be if it was concieved off the Island.
okay, i'm sorry, but that thing in alex's ear is absolutely a microphone. the only question we should be asking is what it's doing there. is it a mistake of filming, something we shouldn't be seeing? or is it part of the story? i'm inclined to say it's part of the story, because it's way too obvious. we all caught it and i highly doubt everyone on the crew missed it.
Well, I definitely screamed at my tv at the top of my lungs when Danielle went down. And, in that screencap pic it sure looks like she got hit from the front. I am very peeved if she doesn't get back on her feet (I don't even WANT TO THINK SHE IS DEAD) and turn "Sayid" on whoever did this.
And, in my opinion, it was a set up of Ben. The temple's location is not known but his people are there and could have intercepted. I don't believe for a minute that Ben doesn't have a little "safe haven" at Othersville from which he can communicate with his people.
mareegirl: no, that is NOT a microphone. What you see are several decorative beads on the end of a tiny braid, like what everyone gets in the Carribbean Islands, etc.
I definitely think it's a microphone- it has the mesh head, and the same base where a wire attachs... I just don't see how it's beads, since they'd be attached to her hair, and this appears to be a wire, not hair. If you look at the super enlarged image, it looks obvious to me. While I do agree it's "old"... not sure how that ties in.
When Karl is down, and before Danielle takes Alex with her, you can see something in Karl's ear (when Alex touches his body). Is that something for the little explosions?
Or is that an headphone?
I'm thinking about an headphone. And I think that Danielle and Alex, with their long hairs, had a different kind of headphone, the thing we are all talking about.
Maybe it was just for these scene, difficult for timings of acting and movements in a jungle full of "flying bullets".

during the episode i was wondering when she had time to put beads in her hair, but here you can see the end of the mic, and the metal piece and then the wire. it can't be a mistake, its too obvious!
I've long wondered if the science expedition thing was a hoax, that Danielle is Annie, and yes, that Ben is Alex's biological father.

Alex could well have been conceived off the island by Danielle and Ben, since we know Ben and other Others can come and go. Danielle/Anie/Annie could have, too.
Whatever her story is, I don't think it's the one she fed us. I also think she's truly on the outs with Ben. Remember how she slugged him when he was tied to the tree at the end of last season? That was genuine contempt.
Also, about who the shooter is: remember that the helicopter has left the boat, and as someone said, there's nowhere else for it to go but the island. And there is at least one really trigger-happy guy on that boat, although he can barely hit anything, even with an automatic rifle.
back on the microphone thing, i am pretty sure i saw it in the scene when everyone was inside. It struck me as odd when i saw it, and then to see this screen cap. somethings up...or not...

Am I one of those people who wants Danielle's backstory to be true. Cos in a way, it may be a key role of the introduction of the 'Numbers' that Hurley got from Leonard. Plus I wud love to see Danielle's ship crashing onto the island in a big storm & her team getting The Sickness, her encounters with Smokey, 7 to see her other team members like Montand & Brennan.
If it turns out just to be a like a Juliet introduction to the island, ie via the submarine, it will be a kop out.
