m, the battery wasn't dead, there was some internal error message on the screen. You can see it in the screen caps from "Catch 22"

Can anyone pinpoint an exact location on the map where the signal is trying to locate a channel at? If it is in Oregon it would certainly open the door for my possibility that they are somewhere at the Mittelos lab in Oregon.
I read on another website that this was confirmed as a modified iPhone. It's the same screen but incased in a different body casing.

My mother is a nurse in a neonatal ICU, and they use the term DOC all the time. When she is talking on the phone to her co-workers, when I have visited her at work, etc.
Also when we first went to the doctor when we found out my wife was pregnant, her doctor used the acronym DOC as well when he estimated the conception date.
It is a widely used term.

What is causing the phone to fail. The Swan was blown up but Dr. Marvin Candle did say in the Orientation film that the part of the island the losties live on is electromagnetic "emanating from this part of the island" or something like that.

Anyone notice Sayid's line about the phone? Something along the lines of "it's extremely advanced". Like technology beyond 2004. Perhaps another time differential referance?
I don't thin that the map has anything to do with the origin of the signal scan. I think it's a map with North America centered in the middle and the ping circles are coming from the middle of the standard desk-top image, not indicating the origin of the ping.

I think this is a big clue. We've always considered the question: "Guys, where are we?"
Last episode the real Sawyer went even further with "Do you know where we are?" (at which point Tom shut him up) and "Are you sure this is an island?" Perhaps the real Sawyer knew something about this location.
We then had the Bali reference thrown in, which makes no sense for a plane traveling from Sydney to LA.
A wild speculation: The "island" is in fact off the coast of Oregon. Or perhaps it's not an island at all, but a fake structure simulating reality (as in The Truman Show).
Evidence:
1. weird spontaneous rainfall
2. Desmond's "snowglobe" problem, as if he were sailing in an enclosed area
3. Juliet experiencing little time elapsed from being drugged and waking up in the sub
I think sayid should test the gps button (first botton), after all it is nice to know the position if he manage to make a call.

The GPS should work, after all the others looked at TV broadcast. Its like 30 GPS satellites orbiting earth... (ofcourse the cabel in the water could the longest private tv/comminucation/sonar beacon cabel ever known to mankind.)
It's a show.. I know, but it would be silly if they don't check the GPS function if its a icon on the dashboard.
I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I don't like the "time is slower on the island" theory and that Naomi is from "the future". Both she and Cooper know about Flight 815's fate, but recall it a little too quickly for it to have been 4-5 years in the past. Maybe sloppy writing, but I'm hoping it's evidence against the time theory.
I agree with you James. I don't think the center of the signal is it's origin... it's just a graphic to show that the phone is searching world wide.
I thought the Sat. phone screen shot was just a typical graphic, too. But the fact that "The Man Behind the Curtain" episode started with a failed pregnancy 32 miles outside of Portland -- the whole thing seems WAY too coincidental.
